Dr. Steven Bartell
Cadmus Group Inc.
1978 Ph.D., Oceanography and Limnology
University of Wisconsin
Research Interests:
Ecological Risk Analysis. Broad range of technical skills and experience in the development, application, and
evaluation of methods for quantitative ecological risk analysis and assessment.
Numerical Sensitivity and Uncertainty Analysis - development and application of methods for
assessing the response of ecological and environmental models to inaccuracies and imprecision in parameter
estimation. Expertise in Monte Carlo methods, interval analysis, fuzzy arithmetic, and computationally intensive
methods (e.g., bootstrap).
Risk-Based Decision Analysis - decision models for several differently scaled potential
environmental problems for a major Canadian utility company. Customized ecological risk assessment methods
specific to the decision process for each of these problems.
Ecological Modeling - development, implementation,
and evaluation of a wide range of ecological models.
Environmental Chemistry - physical, chemical,
and biological processes that determine the chemical speciation, transport, distribution, and fate of contaminants in
air, soils, surface waters, groundwater, and sediments. Development and application of computer simulation models of
environmental fate of organic contaminants (e.g., PAHs). Experienced in the use of water quality models (e.g., EXAMS,
CEQUAL-R1).
Environmental Toxicology - toxicity data for assessing human and ecological risks
