On Wednesday, May 9, 2001, SEI's Dr. Deborah Brosnan testified before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Fisheries,
Wildlife, and Water concerning the use of scientific peer review under the Endangered Species Act. During the
hearing, she reviewed the reasons for widespread, bipartisan support for improved science in endangered species
management, and spoke of the many organizations and individuals calling for independent scientific peer review in
ESA decisions. She went on to outline the problems faced by federal agencies in attempting to obtain outside
scientific commentary, and explained how SEI has succeeded in circumventing these problems. Download Dr. Brosnan's
