WELCOME TO THE HEADWATERS MURRELET PROJECT PAGE
The Headwaters Murrelet Project is a scientific study of the Marbled Murrelet
in northern California. The federal and California governments, and the
Pacific Lumber Company have proposed a transfer of lands and assets. The
Headwaters Forest Complex, which includes large stands of approximetly
7,500 acre
old-growth Redwood forest, will be transferred to public ownership as
part
of the proposed exchange. This study will examine the effect of the
proposed
land transfer on the conservation and continued survival of the Murrelet.
On these pages you will find details of the proposed transfer, of the
scientists carrying out the study, and the latest scientific results. We are
committed to making our results as readily available as possible. New data
will be posted here on a regular basis, as the analyses proceed.
