everal years ago I founded SEI with the vision that it would be the catalyst for scientists to engage in solving global ecological problems in a science-based and cooperative way. Since them the Institue has grown tremendously and tackles many of the thorniest issues of our day. As scientists we have a responsibility to make our science relevant in todays society. SEI is fulfilling that mission with the help of its Conservation Science Network. Today is is firmly established as a credible go to organization for scientific advice and assistance. SEI’s peer review program continues to gain momentum. Executed through the Institute’s Conservation Science Network, SEI currently has a number of peer review efforts in progress. Scientific panels and peer review have become the hallmarks of SEI and are now the main focus of the institute. Tsunami Reef Action Fund: Dr. Deborah Brosnan has been on leave from SEI duties to start a fund to provide scientific and economic support to those devastated by the effects of the SE Asia tsunami and more recently Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
