SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY IN THE RUSSIAN FAR EAST

SEI's newest overseas project is a coordination effort of fifteen projects in the Russian Far East and Siberia. The project is a major demonstration and training effort which will emphasize improving reforestation to mitigate global change. Two demonstration sites, a mixed forest in Primorski Krai and another in the taiga of Khabarovsk Krai are being established as educational models of sustainable forest management. SEI has formed a partnership with USAID to accomplish this goal. SEI's Dr. Pete Owston will lead the project. His role wil be to ensure that project teams have adequate staffing, and project planning, and that reporting is accomplished on schedule. He will keep project teams informed about issues that affect them, communicate with the staff of USAID, International Programs, and other involved organizations.
