email: TErwinCOL@aol.com

An internationally renowned expert on terrestrial insects, Dr. Terry Erwin is a senior scientist and curator at the Smithsonian Institution, as well as a member of the SEI conservation science panel. A strong supporter of the Institute and a welcome source of advice and input, Dr. Erwin became an official associate of SEI after bringing the Institute in to assist with conservation efforts in the San Miguel river valley of Colorado.

Dr. Erwin's work has radically changed the fields of taxonomy, ecology, and conservation biology, and his goal of advancing the role of insect taxonomy in conservation issues fits directly within SEI's mission of fostering good science. In addition to conducting biodiversity surveys in Colorado, where his work will help craft a conservation strategy, he continues to pursue groundbreaking fieldwork in the Amazon, where he has literally discovered more new insect species than he can name!
