The Learning Lab process gathered about 50 city-level stakeholders together with researchers from the Future Climate for Africa (FCFA) initiative. Their objective was to examine Windhoek’s specific needs in relation to managing the city’s response to climate change.
This process is designed around a social learning method, where key stakeholders in city development come together to discuss urgent issues within the city-region. Researchers in other African cities are conducting similar workshops.
In meetings where varying stakeholders are present the process of exchanging information is just as important as the facts being exchanged.
“The Learning Lab process creates an environment where people are able to ask uncomfortable questions and handle awkward silences,” says Bharwani.
