KISR launches inaugural Kuwait Energy Outlook report

The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) aims to transform Kuwait’s oil-dependent economy by shifting to sustainable energy sources. KISR uses the tool LEAP, developed by SEI US, as a foundation for examining Kuwait’s energy efficiency and renewable energy policies.

Arab Times Online reports that KISR has launched an annual evidence based review of Kuwait’s energy production, usage and demand. Based on data analysis produced by LEAP, the report identifies key challenges and gives recommendations for creating a more sustainable and energy efficient society.

SEI’s Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning (LEAP) is a software tool used for energy policy analysis and climate change mitigation assessment. It uses integrated scenarios to build models allowing actors to track energy consumption, production and resource extraction in all sectors of an economy.

LEAP also analyses green house gas emissions on local and regional levels and assesses strategies to tackle short-lived climate pollutants.
