SEI’s tool ‘Transparent supply chains for sustainable economies’ (TRASE) is one of the most useful data sets to work with, as it allows interested parties to follow trade flow to identify sourcing regions, profile supply chain risks to the environment (such as deforestation), and to assess opportunities for sustainable production.

TRASE is built with the help of modelled projections because traders haven’t, up until now, been willing to disclose municipal level procurement data. This new agreement may spur more companies to share data that can be used to improve sustainability assessment of supply chains.
