Water resource management

The Water Cluster aims to develop knowledge, processes, innovative tools, and solutions to improve decision making and best practices in water resources management to provide safe and secure water for all. This will contribute to the achievement of UN Sustainable development goals (SDGs) 6, 11, 13, 15 and 17 by supporting the sustainable and equitable use of water. Our research will also contribute to the achievement of Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) targets and Ramsar Convention on Wetlands strategies.

Water is life and culture in Asia, which is home to 60% of the global population. Asia is also home to some 3500 species of fish and hundreds of other organisms, which spend their entire lives in water. Key challenges of water resources management in Asia include water scarcity for water supply, food production and urbanization, climate and water-related disaster risk reduction, water pollution and ecosystem degradation, and social and gender inclusion.
