The architect helping sinking cities fight flooding

Bangkok, a city of almost 11 million, is extremely vulnerable to flooding. Situated in the low-lying Chao Phraya River Delta, it sits just 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) above sea level. According to the World Bank, 40% of Bangkok could be flooded by 2030 due to more intense rainfall. The city is already sinking by up to two centimeters (0.8 inches) each year. SEI Asia Senior Research Fellow Diane Archer speaks to CNN about Thai landscape architect Kotchakorn Voraakhom, whose designs alleviate flooding.

Local governments across the globe play a key role in mitigating consumption-based emissions. However, most of them currently lack tools and knowledge to address these emissions. The workshop aims to share lessons learned from the current work of Nordic municipalities with estimating consumption-based emissions and discuss what they need and the challenges and opportunities they have identified. The outcomes of the workshop will inform the future priorities of the Nordic Council of Ministers.
