Three observations on how to cut fossil fuels and hold the window open for Paris goals

While the first two installments of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report offered a sobering picture of the planet’s warming trajectory and its devastating impacts, the latest and final report delivers hope and solutions. It reminds us we can choose the climate future we will be living with. Looking through the lens of feasibility, SEI Scientists Peter Erickson and Ploy Achakulwisut say we can still meet Paris warming limits if policymakers act now to wind down fossil fuel use and production.

Human Rights in the Process of National Adaptation Planning: Insights from a Review of Submitted NAPs

Human rights are both directly and indirectly referenced in all 15 National Adaptation Plans (NAP), but in very diverse ways. This reflects the context-specific nature of adaptation planning, with each plan describing a country’s unique vulnerabilities, priorities, and capacities. Moving forward, NAP actors and stakeholders can refine and develop detailed guidance on social, political, administrative, and legal entry points for human rights-based approaches to be integrated into the NAP process.

Despite emerging research on novel mobility solutions in urban areas, there have been few attempts to explore the relevance and sustainability of these solutions in rural contexts. Furthermore, existing research typically focuses on a specific user group. In this paper, the authors study the social inclusivity, economic viability, and environmental impacts of novel mobility solutions in rural contexts, bringing both permanent and temporary residents of rural areas under one research framework.
