The role of risk mitigation in renewable energy investments in sub-Saharan Africa

Developing countries require private investment to help them meet a vast array of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under Agenda 2030. The most successful SDG-related investment target for financiers has been renewable energy, which helps countries achieve the objective of affordable and clean energy. SEI researchers are exploring the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies built into renewable energy investments and whether they truly advance the objective of clean energy growth.

Just transitions in animal agriculture

In many regions, a transition towards more plant-based diets can support both public health and climate goals. But governments in countries with high levels of meat consumption and production continue to subsidize and promote the meat sector. An SEI team says what animal agriculture needs is a just transition: a phase-down of industrial meat production and consumption while supporting livelihoods and correcting historic injustices connected to the industry.

Toward isomorphism in development aid? A study on current trust patterns and their implications for the multi-actor policy on diversity in aid

The project collects systematic data on how the diversity objectives of the Swedish Policy for Global Development are met in actual practice. By mapping current trust patterns among aid intermediaries, across actor groups, and by analyzing the implications of these trust patterns, the project will contribute to the development of theory on trust. The project also aims to study variation and resistance to isomorphism, exploring where and how diversity may be defended and promoted.
