Bangkok: The sinking city faces severe climate challenges

As Bangkok rapidly urbanizes, it is facing unpredictable weather patterns and subsidence, sinking up to two centimetres per year. Already, its major river system, the Chao Praya, has become prone to flooding, and the World Bank estimates that 40% of the city could be inundated by 2030. SEI’s Diane Archer says one part of the solution is more permeable surfaces, like parks.
