Identifying climate service production constraints to adaptation decision-making in Sweden

Slow progress in climate adaptation is often blamed on a failure by climate service producers to deliver actionable information. While previous articles have tried to analyse what climate service producers are doing wrong, this paper explores the why, and in particular the constraints that these climate producers face.

Strategic approaches to restoring ecosystems can triple conservation gains and halve costs

International commitments for ecosystem restoration add up to one-quarter of the world’s arable land. While fulfilling them would ease global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity decline, it could also displace food production and impose financial costs on farmers. This article presents a restoration prioritization approach that can reveal these synergies and trade-offs, incorporate ecological and economic efficiencies of scale and model specific policy options.

Evaluation of simulated ozone effects in forest ecosystems against biomass damage estimates from fumigation experiments

This article evaluates four previously-published ozone damage functions used in terrestrial biosphere models to determine their ability to simulate observed biomass dose-response relationships using the O-CN model. None were able to reproduce the observed ozone-induced biomass reductions. Calibrating a plant-functional-type-specific relationship between accumulated ozone uptake and leaf-level photosynthesis did lead to a good agreement between observed and modelled ozone damage.

In this project, SEI partnered with Karolinska Institutet to explore interactions between child health and other dimensions of the 2030 Agenda in Cambodia. Using the SDG Synergies approach developed by SEI, a systematic assessment of how the SDGs influence child health and vice versa was carried out. Over a two-day workshop in August 2020 in the Phnom Penh area, 29 government and non-government stakeholders discussed and scored interactions across the 17 Cambodian Sustainable Development Goals.
