Cynthia “Cyndi” Crouse is a Research Associate at SEI Asia. She started with the center after completing her master’s degree in International Development at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand in 2021. After six months gaining experience as an intern for the Climate Change, Disaster and Development cluster, she continued working with the team as a Project Assistant, until starting as a RA in January 2023.

Cyndi’s thesis research examined displacement of vulnerable groups from slow onset disaster and how categorization in policy, specifically disaster policy, can contribute to or reduce potential risks. During her case study, unexpected, but unique, alternative methods of adaptation emerged spurring more interest in climate adaptation. Since then, she has been involved in projects focused on climate resilience in agriculture, disaster risk reduction and public health, consumption over the life course, climate change and its implications on land tenure security, and ecosystem-based adaptation as a means of building climate resilience in commodity farming.

Cyndi plans to continue her work with SEI focusing on nature-based solutions to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, particularly considering Indigenous groups as well as agriculture and forestry dependent communities.
