Katherine Snyder is a Senior Scientist in the Equitable Transitions team in the US office in Somerville, MA. An environmental anthropologist, her work focuses on how institutions shape the governance and use of water, land and forests, and how changes in land use affect people’s livelihoods. In her work on sustainable agriculture, she has investigated the gendered nature of livelihoods and access to resources and services.
She has over 20 years of fieldwork experience in sub-Saharan Africa and has published an ethnography on local experiences and perceptions of development in rural Tanzania. Her other publications have examined changing landscapes and livelihoods, the politics of agricultural development, and gender and development.
She has a BA from Smith College in Sociology and an M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Yale University in Anthropology.
