Matthew Fielding

Matthew Fielding is the Division Head for Project Communications and Impact at SEI. He drives the development and implementation of effective communication strategies to maximize the impact of research findings and initiatives across the SEI HQ. He also contributes to multiple research projects and initiatives in roles such as researcher and senior project manager. He is also a Senior Advisor to the SIANI (Swedish International Agriculture Network Initiative) programme.

With over 15 years of experience, Matthew has worked in the fields of environment and sustainable development across five continents, including the UK, US, Malaysia, Ghana, Peru, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Thailand, and Costa Rica.

Matthew’s background in both social and natural sciences enables him to approach development from a multidisciplinary perspective, working on a diverse range of projects. These have included smallholder agriculture, soil carbon, permafrost and computer vision, maternal health and rural livelihoods, and the complex interplay between national development strategies and bilateral aid.

His senior leadership experience encompasses roles such as Head of Operations for the SEI Asia Centre and various positions prior to joining SEI. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Matthew is passionate about mentoring young professionals, particularly those who have recently moved to Sweden.

Matthew earned a BSc in Tropical Environmental Science from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and an MSc in Development Studies from the SOAS in London, England.
