This project aimed to assess the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) instruments (defined as voluntary codes of conduct, management systems, reporting systems, and other methodological ways of working beyond legal compliance) on policy goals of the EU relating to climate mitigation, chemicals, natural resource management, bribery, and gender. It also aimed to study success factors of such impacts.
The project, coordinated by the ÖKO-Insitute, was a collaboration of several European research institutes, who worked on sector surveys and qualitative case studies in the fishing, banking and oil sectors.
SEI was responsible for the policy fields of climate change and chemicals across the sectors, and worked empirically in the oil sector. In 2007 the team delivered policy recommendations to the EU Commission.
