Active project

2021–2023

In collaboration with Hand in Hand Sweden and Håll Sverige Rent, SEI is working on the Waves of Change project, which is being conducted in India, Kenya and Sweden.

The project aims to contribute to a reduction in plastic leakage to the ocean, resulting in a more sustainable environment in India, Kenya and Sweden. It involves promoting ”green” small and medium-sized enterprises for plastic recycling, as well as learning and exchanges of experience between authorities, companies, academia, civil society and individuals in India, Kenya and Sweden.

SEI is undertaking a scoping study focusing on Mombasa, Kenya and Tamil Nadu, India to identify relevant key stakeholders in the plastic waste and recycling value chains. We also aim to identify and analyse relevant governance structures and policy regulatory frameworks for managing plastic waste and recycling, as challenges or gaps in their implementation at local level. SEI will also participate in several stakeholder events and workshops in each of the project countries, both in-person and/or online.

The expected deliverables are two reports from the scoping study: one for Kenya and one for India. SEI will also participate in several stakeholder networking events and workshops in each of the project countries, both in-person and/or online, whose objectives is to share the study results with stakeholders in each country and at international level, and to enhance the skills and capacity of Hand in Hand programme officers to better implement plastic waste recycling activities in the project areas.

The project runs from 2020–2023, with funding from the Swedish Postcode Lottery.
