The study consisted of community sanitation dialogues and participatory GIS (PGIS) held from 8-18 July 2022. The study was conducted in five of Nairobi’s major informal settlements namely Kibra, Kawangware, Korogocho Mukuru Kwa Reuben and Mathare in order to capture the various types of onsite sanitation facilities and services and to explore their similarities and departures in GESI mainstreaming in onsite sanitation provision.

The dialogues commenced with a discussion on the expectations that the participants and communities wanted the study to achieve. The majority of participants hope that the research will contribute to improved and accessible sanitation facilities and services in their localities.
