Blaine Lowry joined SEI in March 2022. Blaine is working as an Expert for the Climate and Energy team at SEI Tallinn.
Blaine´s research interests and expertise encompass various aspects of the fields of meteorology and climatology. These include impact-based alerting for hydrometeorological hazards, development of climate data visualisation tools, assessment and understanding of extreme weather events in the context of climate change and climate adaptation.
Blaine holds a degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Alberta (Canada). Following this degree, he worked for UBIMET, a European meteorological forecasting company based in Vienna. For the past decade, he has worked for the Meteorological Service of Canada in Edmonton as a senior meteorologist working in various roles including public, aviation, marine, air quality, and severe weather forecasting. He has also instructed MSC’s training program for new meteorologists and been on the client services team where he worked directly with emergency management agencies and other external clients, helping them prepare for extreme weather events. Helping policy makers understand anticipated meteorological changes in the context of climate change so society can proactively adapt is key to building a resilient society.
