On behalf of our colleagues at SEI globally, and our US center in particular, we express our collective grief and mourning for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless other Black lives that have been tragically and unnecessarily taken. We condemn the institutionalized racism and aggressive policing that has led to these deaths. We have tolerated bigotry and brutality for far too long. We must work tirelessly to end them.
Unfortunately racism, discrimination and unequal and unjust treatment still prevail in virtually all corners of the world. Consequently, our work must hold nations accountable to upholding what they agreed to in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. We must do more to ensure that racial and gender equality and social equity are central to our research and engagement, to increase diversity at senior levels of the organization, and to address human rights and social justice in the communities we work with.
We stand in solidarity and support with those addressing injustice, oppression, and violence in the streets, in online communities, in halls of government and in civil society. Black lives matter.
SEI commits to fighting for a more just and equitable world.
