The move follows Johan L. Kuylenstierna’s decision to step down during the leadership recruitment process.
Nilsson officially began in the role on 15 January. He said, “It is a true honour, taking on the role as Acting Executive Director. I am planning for a smooth and stable transition period while the hunt for a new permanent ED is going on.

As Deputy Director I have worked closely with Johan over the past six years, and as such have been deeply involved in the strategic agenda as it has been implemented under his leadership.
During these years SEI’s impact and reputation have grown significantly, and my firm intention is to keep building on this success. Therefore the main strategic choices regarding orientation and leadership will be continued, at the same time as gearing up for the development of the next SEI strategy for the period 2020–2024.”
Kuylenstierna will stay on as a Senior Advisor with SEI until his official leaving date at the end of April.
“I am pleased to hand over the leadership to SEI’s Deputy Director, Måns Nilsson. Måns has served as the Research Director and my deputy throughout my tenure as ED and I therefore know that the organization will be in the best of hands during the leadership transition”, said Kuylenstierna.
