Gökçe is a Research Fellow at SEI Headquarters – Climate Energy and Society Unit.

Her research focuses on how to support industry sectors navigate their way towards a sustainable future. Gokce is a part of the Leadership Group for the Industry Transition initiative that explores how policy, finance and business practices in hard-to-abate industry sectors can be aligned to achieve climate neutrality consistent with Paris Agreement and the latest scientific evidence from the IPCC.

Gokce is an energy sector professional, qualified lawyer, academic and consultant with a decade of experience focused on climate change, energy and natural resources law and policy. Alongside her academic research, she brings extensive practical experience working with law firms, academic and international organisations, including the UK Department for International Development (DfID), International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Natural Resources Governance Institute (NRGI), Energy Charter Secretariat, World Bank, and other international development agencies.

Gokce holds a PhD from the Centre for Energy Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee. She also has an LL.M in Corporate and Commercial Law from Queen Mary University of London and a BA in International Law and Legal Studies from Yeditepe University.

She is the author of 20 published and upcoming publications. In her book, “The Future of Gas in the EU: Subsidise or Decarbonise?” (Palgrave Macmillan 2020), she carries out an assessment of the impact of energy transitions on the future of natural gas in the EU energy mix and provides policy recommendations, including on the future of smart sector integration, and explores pathways to promote incentives for technologies such as renewable hydrogen that can enable decarbonisation of the gas grid at scale.

Gokce is also honorary Head of Research and Academic Engagement of “Women in Energy, Climate and Sustainability Foundation”, a public foundation promoting gender equality as a crucial enabler for the transition towards a climate neutral economy in Europe and worldwide.
