Michael Boyland is a Research Associate with SEI Asia. His research focus is on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience, and climate change adaptation.
Prior to becoming a research associate, Michael joined SEI Asia as an intern in November 2014, as part of the SEI Asia and King’s College London (KCL) post-degree internship programme, following the completion of his Master’s degree in Disasters, Adaptation and Development awarded by the Department of Geography at KCL. His thesis research evaluated community flood risk perception and disaster preparedness in Metro Manila, Philippines. Data collection was undertaken whilst working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre (RCCC) Partners for Resilience programme in the Philippines. Michael has also worked for King’s College London fundraising services and the environmental strategy unit at a London borough council.
As well as a Master’s degree in Disasters, Adaptation and Development, Michael also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography awarded by the University of Southampton in the UK.
