Development narratives in a post-aid era: reflections on implications for the global effectiveness agenda

SEI’s Development and Aid Policy Team and the Swedish Development Research Network (SweDev) are happy to present Nilima Gulrajani as the keynote speaker for the SEI and SweDev dialogue on development research on 7 March at 15:00–16:15 CET, as an online Zoom webinar.

7 March 2023 at 15:00 CET

ending at 16:15 CET

Nilima Gulrajani will present her recent UNU-WIDER paper that explores three development narratives that all seek to extricate development from a discredited ODA regime, pave the way for a different kind of relationship between low and high-income countries, and chart a course between the objectives of reducing poverty within countries and resolving broader trans-national challenges. The paper suggests that building a global consensus around development effectiveness requires, as a first step, an awareness of these multiple, cross-cutting, and occasionally competing development narratives.

Penny Davies, Coordinator of the Swedish Chairmanship in the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation at Sida, will be the discussant for this dialogue. Fredrik Söderbaum, SweDev Chair, will give the welcome remarks. Participants at the dialogue will have the opportunity to pose questions to the keynote speaker.
