PECT’s annual Eco Awards is an opportunity for primary & secondary schools in Peterborough to come together and take part in practical hands-on activities to inspire new ideas and projects to take back to school. Sam led a workshop to introduce students and school staff to the SAMHE project.

The workshop started with an introduction to the SAMHE project, explaining how air quality impacts schools how the SAMHE project is investigating air quality in UK schools. Sam then led a hands-on activity including an interactive demonstration of the SAMHE air quality monitor and a practical “Are you full of hot air?” challenge! Finally, students had an opportunity to complete one of the SAMHE air quality activities in the SAMHE Web App.

SAMHE (pronounced “Sammy”!) stands for Schools’ Air quality Monitoring for Health and Education and is a research project working with UK schools to investigate their indoor air quality. Schools get a free air quality monitor and can use the SAMHE Web App to view and explore their data and complete curriculum-linked activities and experiments. By establishing a network of monitors in schools across the UK, SAMHE is generating an unparalleled dataset to help researchers better understand schools indoor air quality. The SAMHE project is a collaboration between SEI York, at the University of York, and other UK research institutions.

PECT is a charity that is helping to protect and enhance the environment by working with communities, schools, businesses and voluntary organizations in Peterborough to deliver environmental projects.
