      Matthew is the Deputy Director of the SIANI (Swedish International Agriculture Network Initiative) platform and the Co-leader of the SEI Initiative on Governing Bioeconomy Pathways.

      He has 15 years’ experience working in environment and sustainable development as a researcher, project manager and communicator in locations ranging from remote Amazon rainforest to mid Ebola Sierra Leone.  His training in both social and natural sciences allows him to work with development from a multidisciplinary perspective on diverse projects such as smallholder agriculture, soil health and rural livelihoods, as well as the relationship between national development strategies and bilateral aid.

      He has five years of senior leadership and operations experience gained most recently from working as the Head of Operations for the SEI Asia centre. Other professional experience has been gained in the UK, Ghana, Peru, the US, Malaysia, and Costa Rica.

      Matthew holds a BSc in Tropical Environmental Science from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and an MSc in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, England.
