Raeni is a Research Associate at SEI York, working on the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) project. Her role involves collaborating with key transport beneficiaries, women, and marginalized groups in Greater Medan, Indonesia to accelerate the decarbonization of the country’s transport sector.
Raeni has completed a PhD in Accounting and an MSc in International Accounting and Finance at the University of Birmingham, UK, and earned a BA in Accounting Education from Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia. Her research focuses on accountability mechanisms for mobilizing climate finance flows and responsible business practices. She has also examined the enhanced transparency and traceability in a case study of sovereign green sukuk issued by the Indonesian government.
Before joining SEI, Raeni served as a research and teaching assistant at Birmingham Business School, contributing to the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education report and the Responsible Business module. She was invited to a summer programme at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University – China and was awarded the Rob Gray Emerging Scholar Award from CSEAR UK and the Indonesia Presidential Scholarship – LPDP Ministry of Finance. She has also acted as an ad-hoc reviewer for several esteemed journals, including Qualitative Research on Accounting and Management and Social and Environmental Accountability Journal.
Moreover, Raeni is actively involved in public engagements, including organizing a simulation for climate change negotiation at the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Festival and participating in community services with local and national institutions in Indonesia to empower young people and women from underprivileged backgrounds.
