Competition introduction

Located on Ikan Paus Street, in the heart of Tanah Tinggi Village of the Binjai Timur Sub-district, Terminal Binjai is a pivotal node in the transportation network of Greater Medan. Just steps away from the Binjai train station, it holds unparalleled potential to become an exemplary intermodal transport hub.

Researchers are seeking innovative ideas to enhance the transport hub as part of the UK-PACT’s Low Carbon Transport Initiative in Indonesia.  This is an opportunity to harness creativity in urban design: the competition will show how collaborative urban design can re-shape public spaces to make them more inclusive, safer and better-suited to the twenty-first century.  The goal is to identify potential future designs that could help develop Terminal Binjai into a sustainable and resilient urban transport hub.
