The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok initiated this working group on increasing economic and technical cooperation to address shared vulnerabilities and risks.
The working group will assess current regional efforts on economic cooperation and integration to identify gaps in those efforts, and recommend ways to address shared vulnerabilities and risks. These recommendations will be given to intergovernmental open-ended preparatory meetings to be convened for the second Ministerial Conference on Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration in Asia and the Pacific, to take place in 2015. The working groups will also publish their findings in the World Development Report 2015.
Frank Thomalla of SEI Asia will be the “lead expert” on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in Asia and the Pacific for this Working Group.
