This project developed methods to improve our knowledge of the scale of pollution levels in rural areas around the World and of the pollution effects on ecosystems, especially those in Asia and Africa, where recent increases in pollution concentration have been particularly rapid.

The project brought together a unique combination of novel satellite observation and analysis techniques with state-of-the-art air pollution modelling and impact assessment methods.  These developments integrate three scientific communities (Earth Observation, Chemical Transport Modelling and air pollution impact assessment allowing advances in each discipline to more quickly realise a step-change in our understanding of air pollution impacts on ecosystems.
