The overall goal of the project is to reduce the environmental footprint of Kenyan Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and strengthen their capacity to compete in the local and international markets.

Specifically, the project intends to:

  1. Increase awareness and knowledge on sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices and related benefits by MSMEs in the agribusiness sector in Kenya
  2. Strengthen competitive advantage of MSMEs through the adoption of SCP practices, in order to match the increasing requirements of international procurers
  3. Increased MSMEs access to financial instruments to acquire technology, solutions, and processes leading to better SCP performances, and
  4. Capacity building model disseminated to other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (in particular Ethiopia and Uganda).

SEI Africa will lead by:

  • identifying, mapping and assessing local and Africa-tailored SCP practices
  • organising training workshops for MSMEs operating along the value chains in the three priority commodities, and
  • documenting best practices through the development of SCP Handbooks for the three priority commodities.

This project is funded by the European Union through the Switch Africa Green Programme. The consortium is led by Etimos Foundation (Italy) with partners from E4IMPACT foundations, Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Tangaza University College.
