Experiences and lessons in stakeholder engagement in environmental evidence synthesis: a truly special series

Between May 2017 and May 2018, a series of papers appeared in the journal Environmental Evidence on the topic of “Stakeholder engagement in systematic reviews and maps”. This editorial article gives an overview of the series and a summary of the key insights from it.

All systematic review involves a degree of stakeholder engagement. However, systematic review guidance has to date rarely discussed it, particularly in the field of environmental management and conservation. A series of commentary articles appearing in Environmental Evidence discusses various aspects of engaging with stakeholders.

The series gathers reflections and best practices emerging from challenging and rewarding experiences. The series is a vital tome for all reviewers and, we hope, a catalyst for improving conduct and reporting of stakeholder engagement in evidence synthesis.
