CS Co-labs launch (online 2)

part of Citizen Science

We warmly invite you join us for the online launch of CS Co-labs (Collaborative Citizen Science labs). Come and find out more about the project, meet the team delivering it, and consider whether the planned discussion sessions, or a one-to-one, could be useful in supporting you in your research.

Citizen science and adjacent participatory methods are gaining interest and are increasingly encouraged by funders. However, it can be challenging to design a project that is both inclusive and scientifically rigorous, and work with participants ethically and with sensitivity.

That’s where CS Co-labs comes in. It’s a one-year project run by SEI York, creating a shared space for colleagues and others interested in using citizen science methods to access support, learn from the experience of others and explore new approaches.

If you are using citizen science methods for a research project, or thinking about the possibility,  CS Co-labs can link you with experts, to help you refine your ideas or troubleshoot issues, and help you connect with peers doing similar work.

CS Co-labs will offer:

  • ‘Clinics’: opportunities for people to book time to discuss their research projects, proposals or problems with us, for guidance or knowledge sharing;
  • Topic-based discussion sessions: sharing our experiences with different aspects of citizen science, inviting reflections from participants, and facilitating discussion for collective learning; and
  • Accessible resources: which we will develop during the project, to share learning with the wider community.

We will also set up an advisory board composed of citizen science participants, to oversee the project and ensure what we do is relevant and appropriate.

Online launch

We warmly invite you to join us for the project launch. We are holding two online launch events, to cater for people in different time zones.

Wednesday 19 August 2026, 15:00 – 15:55 BST (UTC+01:00)

Thursday 20 August 2026, 10:00 – 10:55 BST (UTC+01:00)

These events are open to SEI and University of York staff and research students and the wider research community.

We’ll start with a presentation about the project, with time to ask questions. You’ll also have the opportunity to help shape our plans for delivery.

Join the CS Co-labs mailing list to:

  • receive an invitation to the online launch events
  • receive invitations to discussion sessions
  • get instructions for requesting a clinic
  • hear about new resources
Join the mailing list

There is no requirement to attend a launch event in order to participate in the subsequent CS Co-labs clinics or discussion sessions.
