This International Council for Science (ICSU) working paper presents a framework to characterize interactions between different Sustainable Development Goals.
The framework is relevant for both research and policy analysis to support coherent implementation of the 2030 Agenda. It was developed as part of a project to explore an integrated and strategic approach to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), recognizing the important interlinkages between different goals and targets.
It is based on a seven-point scale of SDG interactions, ranging from “Indivisible” to “Cancelling”, to be used in identifying and testing development pathways that minimize negative interactions and enhance positive ones. It will form the basis of a much broader exercise to be developed by ICSU with actors from research and practice to test and apply the framework via case studies.
Måns Nilsson introduced the framework in a side event at the High-Level Political Forum in New York, 15 July 2016.
