Christmas is a time of the year that can produce excess waste in every household. Speaking on BBC Breakfast at the York Christmas Market, Sarah West gave her thoughts on how people can celebrate with a more sustainable Christmas.

Christmas is a really expensive time of the year, both financially and also in terms of the environment. If you are going to buy gifts, try to buy stuff second-hand or pre-loved. If you are going to buy something new, make sure it's really good quality so it lasts.

Sarah expands on the different ways people can have a sustainable Christmas by thinking about their lighting decorations and recycling or reusing wrapping paper.

Christmas is a really important time of the year to spend time with loved ones. And it is a time you can take stock and make resolutions for things you can do in the New Year to be greener too.
