Using the Digital Belt and Road initiative as an example, and drawing on the broad experience of the panel members, the side event will be a platform for identifying how big Earth data and other scientific data can be put in a form readily understood and used by decision-makers in Southeast Asia.

The focus will be on assisting senior government officers and other key actors to acquire the information they need – in a form that they can understand — to prepare improved policies, strategies, programs and projects directed at meeting the SDGs and, in particular, strengthening climate change adaptation and resilience.

The three-hour session will be moderated by Ms. Rohini Kohli, Lead Technical Specialist for National Adaptation Plans, UNDP, who will also serve as a panelist.

Panel

  • Prof. Kazuhiko Takeuchi, President, IGES
  • Dr. Evelyn L. Namubiru-Mwaura, Center Director, SEI Africa
  • Mr. Seiji Tsutsui, Director, Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research
  • Ms. Rohini Kohli, Lead Technical Specialist for National Adaptation Plans, UNDP
