High-level dialogue: Advancing climate action through trade

Free flow of goods, services, solutions and innovations across borders is in an important role in climate change mitigation. Solving the climate challenge requires global collaboration, specifically trough trade, so that climate solutions can effectively be scaled up in markets across the globe.

Join us in a high-level dialogue on how international trade can be harnessed to accelerate the development and deployment of climate solutions.

Opening keynote is delivered by Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio, followed by a presentation by Kimberley Botwright, Head of Sustainable Trade at World Economic Forum.
A panel of experts discuss the role and importance of international collaboration and trade in advancing the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, presenting case examples from sustainable aviation fuels, nuclear energy and green steel. Decarbonising Steel Production: Financing Green Steel in a Developing Country

Decarbonizing global steel production is widely accepted as both urgent and immensely challenging. This event seeks to illustrate these challenges and potential solutions by presenting the findings of a new research project by the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). SEI hosts the secretariat of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition – an initiative launched by the governments of Sweden and India, with support from the World Economic Forum, that gathers countries and companies committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions from industry by 2050. More details.

The research project builds the business case and the financial model for an export-focused archetypal green steel project in a developing country.

Moderator: Leila Trulsen, Program Coordinator for COP28 at Business Sweden.
