Why do we work to protect the environment? For some, it’s about survival. For others, it’s about economics. But at our core, most of us are driven by our values: We believe that caring for our planet, for future generations and all living things, is the right thing to do.
For more than 1 billion Catholics around the world, Pope Francis’s 2015 Encyclical, Laudato si’, embodies that mindset, seamlessly linking their faith and sense of justice with environmental stewardship. A global movement has emerged to put those teachings into practice.

In a first-of-its-kind partnership for SEI, we have collaborated with the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development to produce “Our common home: A guide to caring for our living planet,” a booklet and website that connect the science of climate change, biodiversity and sustainable resource use with the messages of Laudato si’.
At our virtual launch event, on Tuesday, 14 February at 15:00-16:00 CET, we will unveil the booklet – available in English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish – and share perspectives from science and faith on its key messages and how they might be put into practice in different contexts.
