The new Climate Think Tank Ranking is focused on organizations that specialize in the field of climate change economics and policy. The climate think tanks list consists of 260 organizations, of which 34 made the final rankings in the European category.

“I see this as an encouragement that we’re on the right track, that our climate policy research strategy is seen as relevant and that our papers, reports and policy briefs are influential,” said Richard Klein, Senior Research Fellow and leader of SEI’s research theme Reducing Climate Risk.

SEI’s work on climate change economics and policy is part of the SEI research theme Reducing Climate Risk, one of four key thematic areas that guides SEI’s broad range of research on environment and development.

“SEI’s research on climate adaptation and mitigation in Europe and beyond, our contributions to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, our academic journal Climate and Development, and many other activities on the interface of science and policy have informed decisions that help to reduce the risk of climate change to people, their activities and their environment,” said Klein.

The ranking methodology developed by the International Centre for Climate Governance (ICCG) is based on solid quantitative and analytical data.  The climate think tanks were assessed against a wide range of criteria including: events; authors in IPCC Reports; UNFCCC submissions; articles in peer-reviewed journals; non peer-reviewed publications; the number of EU funded projects conducted; and an assessment of participation in the EU consultation process.

“[The ICCG Climate Think Tank Ranking] is the first ranking of think tanks working in the field of climate change economics and policy, and it includes the most world-renowned think tanks that specialize in climate change economics and policy,” said the authors of the ranking report.
