      Doreen Kirema is the Finance and Operations Manager at SEI Africa. She has over 11 year’s progressive experience in Finance Management, Grants, Operations, Administration, Human Resources and Programme management. She is also experienced in working for international NGOs and multinational corporate organizations with responsibilities for finance, coordinating project implementation and operations of regional offices. Doreen has worked with administrating and coordinating international and regional research projects in energy & climate, natural resources and ecosystem, agriculture, communication, sustainable urbanization, policy and advocacy and networking sectors in East, South and West Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, Nigeria, Mali, Benin, Botswana and Senegal), while managing programme grants, operations, partner communications, project monitoring, financial reporting as well as handling donor correspondences.

      Doreen joined SEI in October 2015 and is responsible for leading the overall financial management at the Center; coordinating operational management including administrative and project operations, and supporting human resource management at SEI Africa in close liaison with SEI HQ in Stockholm. She is also in charge of developing and maintaining standard internal finance and administrative systems and procedures.

      Prior to joining SEI, Doreen worked for the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE)-Biovision Farmer Communication Programme as well as Biovision Africa Trust where she was instrumental in setting up the Farmer Communication Programme as well as facilitating registration and starting operations for the Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT). Doreen facilitated the establishment of National Platforms and the selection of Country Lead Organizations (CLOs) & Pillar/project implementing partners (PIPs) that are currently responsible for the management, accountability and general oversight of all partner activities in the eight countries where BvAT was operating.

      Before ICIPE, Doreen worked with Ericsson Kenya Limited (EKL) as a project cost administrator where she administered a portfolio of communication projects according to Ericsson’s global processes and scheduling of project activities in the Africa region.

      Doreen holds a master’s degree in business administration (Finance option) from the United States International University (USIU) and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi (UON). Doreen is also a certified public accountant (CPA.K).
