      Göran Nilsson Axberg, PhD Forest Economics, MSc Forestry, served as SEI Deputy Director 2001-2005 and was a Senior Research Fellow until leaving SEI in 2011. He is currently an SEI Affiliated Researcher based in Stockholm.

      Göran’s general areas of work are in the fields of environmental and development policies; climate and energy; and planning and management in the natural resources sector.

      More detailed experience include works on leadership development; forestry and wildlife; community forestry; sustainable forest management; biomass production; local development funds; sustainable rural development; land uses and water resources; economic, social and environmental assessments; policy formulation for sustainable rural development, climate adaptation, upland agriculture; nature and biodiversity conservation; capacity building; land use planning and land allocation; management planning for national parks; watershed management; and forestry and water related transboundary issues.

      Dr Axberg has more than 30 years of professional experience with 18 years as full time international consultant, and extensive experience from programme development and project supervision, team leading and team-work with multi-disciplinary and multi-national teams commissioned by ADB, EU, UNDP, UNEP, WB, IDB, FAO, NFD, MRC, Sida, Finnida, Danida, Norad, the Netherlands, DFID, national ministries of planning and investment, rural development, environment and agriculture/forestry, commercial companies or NGOs.
