Julia Weppler is a Climate Policy Intern at SEI US based in Somerville, supporting the technical and programming needs of the climate policy team. She is a master’s student at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences specializing in human–computer interaction and data visualization. Her recent work includes developing a large language model-based data extraction pipeline for the LeadIT team at SEI and building web-based interactive visualizations connected to an R workflow to explore equitable fossil fuel extraction phaseout pathways.
Previously, Julia investigated the impacts of ocean warming and acidification on seagrass beds through her undergraduate thesis in Environmental Studies at Boston College, as well as independent research at the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science.
She is particularly interested in oceanography, geographic information systems, and interactive web-based visualizations, and is passionate about designing tools that make complex scientific evidence more accessible, interpretable, and actionable.
