Junior Expert (Climate Systems and Energy Policy Unit)

Mariel Leppik / SEI Tallinn

Mariel Leppik works as a Junior Expert in the Climate Systems and Energy Policy Unit and focuses on climate and energy modelling.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Energy, Environment, and Chemical Technology and a Master’s degree in Green Energy Technologies from Tallinn University of Technology. Mariel also completed two semesters at the Technical University of Denmark, where she focused on systems engineering, optimization, and hybrid power systems. Her master’s thesis examined the integration of hybrid energy storage in multi-energy eco-industrial parks throught optimization.

Before joining SEI, Mariel worked on renewable energy projects in Estonia and Cyprus with Estonia’s transmission system operator and private developers. Her interests include environmental and climate sustainability, as well as exploring storage and hybrid solutions to enhance the flexibility of energy systems. Mariel believes that modelling and optimization are essential tools for informed decision-making under uncertainty.
