Shang Chen

Shang Chen is a Short Term Associate Scientist with the Water Program at SEI US, based in Davis, California. She first joined SEI as an intern in December 2025.

At SEI, Shang supports econWEAP modeling work through code debugging, model structure improvements, and the integration of new datasets. She also develops visualizations that help summarize and communicate model outputs for technical and research audiences. Her work focuses on statistical modelling, data structuring, reproducible analytical workflows, and the development of workflow-support tools that reduce repetitive tasks and improve day-to-day efficiency. Looking ahead, Shang will support a broader range of projects across the Water Program by applying her skills in statistical analysis, workflow development and results communication.

Shang recently completed her M.S. in Statistics at the University of California, Davis. Before joining SEI, she completed internships across the education, manufacturing, and financial sectors, where she supported data preparation, validation, and analysis. She also holds a B.S. (Hons.) in Mathematics and Statistics from Hong Kong Baptist University. Through these experiences, she developed programming skills and worked with cross-functional teams to translate operational and policy questions into analytical outputs.
