Shang Chen

Intern

Shang Chen is an intern with the Water Program, based in Davis, California. She is a second-year M.S. student in Statistics at the University of California, Davis, and holds a B.S. (Hons.) in Mathematics and Statistics from Hong Kong Baptist University. Shang’s interests focus on statistical modelling and applied data analysis, with particular attention to building reproducible workflows and translating results into actionable insights.

At SEI, Shang supports hydro-economic modelling work by contributing to code debugging and model development efforts related to expanding the modelling domain. In parallel, she develops and refines visualization tools that summarize and communicate model outputs for technical audiences.

Previously, Shang completed internships across the education, manufacturing, and financial sectors, where she supported end-to-end data analysis projects. In these roles, she built and maintained Python-based analytical workflows for data preparation, validation, and reporting. Working in cross-functional teams, she helped translate operational and policy questions into well-defined metrics and practical analyses.
