On 2–3 June 2022, Stockholm+50 will commemorate the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and celebrate 50 years of global environmental action. Nature-based solutions (NbS) have recently emerged as a key environmental action to address societal challenges. SEI researchers discuss the promises and pitfalls of NbS with a special spotlight on social equity, finance and scale in this episode of the Talks 4 Action podcast.
This episode is part of the Talks 4 Action podcast featuring Karina Barquet and Jonathan Green from SEI as guests. The podcast was produced by the Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with support from the European Commission.
“Man is both creature and moulder of his environment, which gives him physical sustenance and affords him the opportunity for intellectual, moral, social and spiritual growth. In the long and tortuous evolution of the human race on this planet a stage has been reached when, through the rapid acceleration of science and technology, man has acquired the power to transform his environment in countless ways and on an unprecedented scale. Both aspects of man’s environment, the natural and the man-made, are essential to his well-being and to the enjoyment of basic human rights the right to life itself.” (Stockholm Declaration, 1972).
