Models have been shown to play an important role in science-policy communication and this project will analyze the social ”chain of production“ of modelling, from the gathering data in the field, to the production of models and across to their dissemination and reception in media and policy, including how the latter contexts feed back into data gathering and model production.

SEI’s participation in the project will focus on the policy context and is a follow-up on previous studies of the science and policy in the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment.

The project is led by the Division of History of Science and Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology and includes collaboration with the Rossby Centre.

Project funder is Formas (Swedish Research Council for the Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning).
