A global approach for mapping the supply chain of coffee: data and methods

This open-access Trase dataset maps global coffee supply chains for 2020, linking producing countries and subnational regions with exporter and importer companies and destination markets.

This dataset maps global coffee supply chains in 2020 by combining international trade data from UN Comtrade with per-shipment data from ten coffee-producing countries. It provides the volume and value of coffee exports, linking production with exporters, importers and destination markets.

Detailed company data and subnational sourcing estimates are available for Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Peru and Tanzania. For Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Uganda and Viet Nam, company data are available at national level, while national production and trade data cover the remaining countries.

The publication includes:

  • Global coffee supply chain data in CSV and Excel formats
  • A PDF explaining the methodology, data sources and version history

Together, the data can support analysis of sourcing patterns and supply chain concentration, as well as more targeted assessments of environmental and social risks.
